SOS Technology For DPs

Silicon-on-Sapphire sensor technology has redefined the performance capability of our differential transmitters.

S.O.S. was initially utilised in the advancement of high temperature integrated circuits for the NASA space programme. ESI has taken this technology and developed a sensor that is capable of accurately measuring vibration, torque, force or pressure in extreme temperatures over long periods of time.

The outstanding elastic properties of the sapphire substrate provide the perfect platform on which to create a sensor with no measurable hysteresis and superb repeatability. The excellent insulation properties of the sapphire protect the strain gauge from electro-magnetic pulse radiation, and allow the sensor to operate over a very wide temperature range without loss of performance.

Silicon on Sapphire Technology for DPs!

Combined with all titanium wetted parts, this sensor offers unbeatable performance with high over pressures and excellent chemical compatibility. Incorporating SOS into differential applications offers a reliable and durable solution with unbeatable performance and value.

Applications include flow measurement with pivot tubes, orifice plates and mass flow meters, plus static differential pressure measurement and control in combustion chambers and clean rooms, also condition monitoring and filter monitoring in high pressure hydraulic systems or any application on liquid or gas requiring reliable differential pressure measurement.

The Importance of Intrinsic Safety in Instrumentation for the Mining Industry

Intrinsic safety (IS) is a critical design and operational principle in instrumentation used within the mining industry. Mines are often classified as hazardous areas due to the presence of flammable gases, combustible dust, or reactive substances. Intrinsically safe instrumentation is engineered to operate with energy levels below those capable of igniting such volatile environments, ensuring that safety and operational efficiency are not compromised.
