Every pressure measurement application comes with its own set of requirements.

Sometimes the pressure range is unusual. The available space is limited. The process connection needs to be modified. The transmitter must withstand extreme temperatures or aggressive media. In other cases, a standard pressure transmitter may need to meet specific certification or electrical requirements.

This is where custom pressure transmitters and bespoke pressure measurement solutions can provide the answer.

At ESI Technology, custom design has been part of our engineering capability for more than 40 years. Alongside our standard range of pressure transducers and transmitters, we develop special products for applications where a standard configuration is not quite right.

When a standard pressure transmitter isn’t enough

A customer may need a transmitter with a specific pressure range, unusual dimensions or a particular process connection. They may need materials selected for compatibility with the measured media, or a design that can operate reliably at high temperatures.

Rather than forcing the application to fit a standard product, ESI can adapt an existing design or develop a bespoke solution around the requirements.

Custom pressure transducers built around the application

Every application presents its own set of challenges. The measured media, operating pressure and temperature can all influence the design of a pressure transducer.

ESI uses Silicon-on-Sapphire (SoS) sensing technology across much of its pressure transmitter range. SoS provides excellent mechanical strength, electrical insulation, repeatability and resistance to temperature effects and overpressure.

Where required, ESI can combine this sensing technology with application-specific mechanical and electrical configurations.

The result is a pressure transducer designed around the application rather than a compromise based on the nearest available standard specification.

Special products for demanding environments

Some applications require more than a simple mechanical or electrical modification.

ESI has developed special pressure measurement products for demanding environments where standard equipment may not be suitable. These include applications involving high pressure, high temperature, hydrogen, hazardous areas, subsea environments and marine systems.

Depending on the application, custom designs can incorporate specialist materials, additional environmental protection, specific certification or unique mechanical configurations.

ESI’s experience with ATEX and IECEx products also allows hazardous-area requirements to be considered during the design process. For marine applications, DNV-approved solutions are available, while ESI’s AS9100D certification reflects the rigorous quality processes applied to its aerospace-related design and manufacturing activities.

From concept to finished product

Custom design starts with understanding the application.

ESI’s engineering team can work with customers to establish the key requirements, identify potential design challenges and determine whether an existing transmitter can be modified or whether a completely new solution is required.

This may involve adapting an existing product, developing a new sensor configuration or designing a completely bespoke pressure transmitter.

The process can include:

  1. Application review
    Understanding the pressure, temperature, media, environment and installation requirements.
  2. Design and engineering
    Developing the mechanical and electrical configuration around the application.
  3. Prototype and testing
    Evaluating the design and making any necessary refinements.
  4. Manufacture and calibration
    Producing the finished pressure transmitter using ESI’s established manufacturing and calibration processes.
  5. Ongoing support
    Supporting customers with future production, calibration, modifications or additional requirements.

This approach provides a clear route from an initial specification to a practical pressure measurement solution.

When your specification doesn’t fit the catalogue
