Need Help Choosing the Best Pressure Sensor? SOS!

Silicon-on-Sapphire (SOS) technology from ESI Technology is the answer to many of the most demanding pressure measurement applications from Subsea Control Modules to vertical thrust in the aerospace industry.

Silicon-on-Sapphire technology was first developed for integrated circuit manufacturing in the semiconductor industry where it used for high performance products. ESI Technology noted the opportunity to develop this into pressure sensor manufacture.

Pressure sensors constructed using SOS exhibit exceptional performance and outstanding stability when compared with older, more traditional methods of manufacture. The sapphire substrate also allows the sensor to operate over a very wide temperature range without loss of performance due to its outstanding insulation properties.

The superior features don’t end there. The SOS sensor element is then bonded to a titanium diaphragm instead of traditional stainless steel. High overpressures, very low hysteresis and great corrosion resistance are the result. For more critical applications the complete sensor body – all wetted parts – is constructed in titanium.

With the advanced features of SOS technology and titanium construction it is no surprise that this is the pressure sensor of choice for customers with critical applications in aerospace, defence, automotive and subsea oil and gas industries.

ESI Technology manufactures a wide range of pressure sensors, strain gauges and telemetry systems from its purpose built factory in Wrexham, north Wales.

The Importance of Intrinsic Safety in Instrumentation for the Mining Industry

Intrinsic safety (IS) is a critical design and operational principle in instrumentation used within the mining industry. Mines are often classified as hazardous areas due to the presence of flammable gases, combustible dust, or reactive substances. Intrinsically safe instrumentation is engineered to operate with energy levels below those capable of igniting such volatile environments, ensuring that safety and operational efficiency are not compromised.
